Supplier Vetting: the 6-point proof

Good paperwork reduces bad surprises. Use this 6-point proof before the first serious PO:

  1. Entity & tax IDs: Verify legal registration, GST, and (for importers) past import documentation.
  2. FSSAI & labels: Request examples of compliant labels used in India retail; ensure batch coding.
  3. References: Two recent buyer references with invoices (mask values if needed) and delivery timelines.
  4. Warehouse reality check: Live video walk-through showing storage, lot labels, and temperature controls.
  5. Spec sheet & defect photos: Signed, with moisture/grading ranges and photo references for skin lift, crystallization, foreign matter, etc.

  • Skin lift: peel separation exposing flesh; tolerable if minor and area limited.

Cold Chain & Storage SOPs

Soft/high-moisture varieties shine when temperature is respected end-to-end. Below is a simple receiving SOP (also encoded in the HowTo schema).

  1. Pre-alert: Confirm ETA, unloading slot, and staff. Stage pallets, liners, and calibrated probe.
  2. On arrival: Record truck ambient, pallet core, and 3-point product temperature log.
  3. Sampling: Follow your AQL plan. Photograph anomalies; keep retain samples sealed.
  4. Disposition: Accept, re-grade (label), or hold for vendor feedback with a defect report.
  5. Put-away: FEFO labels with lot/date/grade. For soft dates, target 2–8 °C; keep RH controlled.

For semi-dry/dry types, cool, low-humidity ambient works if protected from heat and sun. Elevate cartons on pallets; avoid wall contact to prevent condensation.
